  Altec builds custom trucks for electrical utility, telecommunications, and tree care industries. During this co-op, my main task was to identify and solve any problems on the manufacturing line. I led two Rapid Continuous Improvement events (RCIs). One RCI pertained to standardization of valve mounting locations for hydraulics systems, as well as various other minor improvements in the hydraulics stage. The second RCI I led was dedicated to developing and implementing a 5S audit system. I also tackled any day to day small projects given to me by the manufacturing, quality, or applications engineering teams, as well as our environmental, health, and safety department. Show less

  Clary Lake Service manufactures, installs, and removes boat hoists and docks. My main task at Clary Lake Service was planning the layout for their new manufacturing facility, a 12,800 square foot building with an overhead crane. The layout needed to integrate steel storage, plasma table, press brake, saws, welding tables, large assembly area under crane, and office space on a mezzanine. All while maintaining seamless flow of product through the building. The main struggles with the project included maintaining flow while making sure power was supplied to welders, saws, and plasma table, using vertical space without interfering with the overhead crane, and deciding where to cut concrete for the press brake, the most permanent item in the building.
