In addition to creating content, I oversaw promotional content that was posted to the social media accounts. I used a strategic blend of infographics, links to articles as well as original content to spread the message of UO's Relay for Life around campus and its surrounding areas. As the public relations chair I also crafted press releases that were sent to The Register Guard in order to gain a larger following for our event in Portland. As a general member of the Relay for Life committee, I aided in the planning fundraisers for the event as well as orchestrating the event which was held on April 22nd, 2017. Our fundraising goal was $25,000 and we reached our goal two days before the event. At the beginning of the event, we made it our goal to raise $5,000 more. In order to raise $5,000 in 12 hours, I led a social media blast and the rest of the committee committed to spreading the word through their own social media accounts as well. Within the 12 hours of our event, we surpassed our second goal and raised a total of $32,000--and that number is still rising.

My responsibilities included continuing excellent customer service, merchandising products and representing the University of Oregon. I helped to deepen existing customer relationships and to create new ones by offering suggestions and opinions on products. I worked in a fast-paced environment and balanced several responsibilities at once while ensuring customers had a satisfying in-store experience. Additionally I observed courtroom hearings and adoptions for additional information regarding open cases and attended meetings with the Director of Public Information for the Superior Court of Los Angeles to discuss journalist collaborations. Lastly I visited various juvenile courthouses in area and observed hearings in the STAR (Succeeding Through Achievement and Resilience) Court, which is a collaborative court for youth in the juvenile delinquency system who have been identified as Commercial and Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) victims.

I updated and created egg donor files. I also worked with doctor’s offices to ensure that donors were being given the correct medications. While working in this office, I got to see how a real business with clients was run. I was able to learn how to interact with clients while getting the job done efficiently. I have interned for a journalist named Peter Greenberg, who is an Emmy award-winning producer and reporter. While working there, I wrote travel pieces for the online database and updated files with information from travel agencies and was published on his website (www.peterbreenberg.com). I was also in contact with clients and responded to many emails that were received each day. Additionally, I helped finish a project Peter had been working on called “Mexico: The Royal Tour” that was made for PBS and aired in 2011.
