I am a Communications Specialist for our client, ECHAR Network, via the University of Houston. Here I lead a team of PR students from the Jack J. Valenti School of Communications as we help our client reach their community engagement goals. Creating content strategy, leading the vision, and establishing the branding for our client's social media pages with the help of my amazing team has been some of my favorite work here. All of our messaging must be scientifically accurate and considerate of those who have personal ties with Alzheimer's; all while still being engaging, fun, and serve as inspiration for action to members of Latino communities. ECHAR Network determined that the best way to engage Latino communities is via "telenovelas," soap operas. So we did just that. About thirty students from the University of Houston took part in the making of our mini-novela series about a family adapting to changes as their grandfather realizes that he may be exhibiting signs of Alzheimers. Our job is to engage Latino communities about Alzheimer's in a way that is relatable, meaningful, and action-oriented so that more Latinos have the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions regarding their brain health, and ultimately, prioritize it. Currently, I am representing our client for partnership opportunities with community centers such as learning centers, senior homes, and clinics that primarily serve members of Latino communities.
