During my internship I conducted research concerning the influence of ageing on degeneration of the intervertebral disc and the utility of TGF family members for regenerative purposes of the disc. In this study I used bovine IVDs as a model for the human IVDs, to study how ageing affects degeneration and the different cell types located in the IVD. Secondly I will study the differences between these three different cell types in the intevertebral disc and how they respond to different growth factors belong to the TGF family. During my internship I will use and become familiar with various techniques e.g. cell culturing, western blotting, isolation RNA from tissue/cells and even some histological work. At the end of my research period I wrote a report about my findings titled "Ageing of the intervertebral disc and the utility of TGF family members for regenerative stem cell approaches". My work during the internship and written report were grated with an 8.0/10. Show less

During my many years working at the Joe Mann Paviljoen I got more responsibilities each year, with a supervisor function in the last 2 years. Reponsibilities were teaching new employees, managing the barcrew, managing parties (weddings, birthdays, family reunions etc.), serving the guests and doing a bit of administrative work. Bachelor intern Department of Molecular Plant Physiology

During my bachelor internship I study the suppressor mutant 33.1 of the hws mutation in Arabidopsis thaliana. This is done with a map-based cloning approach. For this project I have to design my own primers voor InDels, make my own PCR protocol and I will acquire more basic lab skills. This project will be closed by giving a presentation and writing my bachelor thesis (titled "Mapping the Hawaiian skirt suppressor mutant 33.1 to the Arabidopsis thaliana genome"). My internship and thesis were grated with a 7.5/10. Show less
