I completed a 6 week summer internship placement at Acoustical Control Engineers (ACE). ACE specialises in solving problems concerning noise and vibration and my role primarily focused on the designing process to tackle such problems. I worked alongside several professional design engineers and utilised the company’s CAD system, namely Autodesk Inventor. Examples of some of the projects that I was involved in would be: • Designing a fan base support frame with anti-vibration mounts to isolate vibrations from travelling down office floors • Designing pentapost acoustic enclosures with attenuators for Co-Op • Assisting in making modifications in a very big project (ongoing for years) with One Bank Street in London My final design assemblies and drawings were presented to and approved by the Senior Project Manager and Operations Manager before being issued for manufacture. Undertook a research placement at the Centre for Molecular Informatics in the field of cheminformatics which involved the use of computer software, programming, large datasets and involved writing a fully referenced report to be assessed by the Nuffield Foundation and CREST awards. All the research culminated in me finding a potential functional group responsible for causing arrythmia. Project included: • Exploring Adverse Drug Reactions by using In Silico techniques to predict enriched protein targets of drug compounds causing arrhythmia • Extracting and manipulating side effect data from online bioactivity databases • Analysing drug compounds using cheminformatics data visualisation software (software called DataWarrior) • Programming in python and using relevant algorithms to predict properties of drug compounds Show less
