As a content writer I compose content for the web for a story-driven marketing agency, Story IQ. I write everything from blog posts to eBooks, on a variety of topics written in an engaging manner with a storytelling style. The creative projects challenge me to think outside the box. Working as an independent contractor suits my lifestyle and has proven to be productive. Motivation: my words make a difference. As the sole staff member in Nelson, I distribute and paste all posters in the region as well as maintain sites and keep in regular communication with the head office in Auckland. My favourite parts are the odd and interesting interaction with people on the streets and arranging the posters in an eye-appealing way. It's all about the eyeballs in this biz.

From processing orders, exporting wine, managing inventory and working the tasting room, I do it all. I've learned the ins and outs of customs, how to pack a shipping container, and that organic wine really does lessen the hangover effect. I've enjoyed meeting people from around the world and sharing wine with them. I wrote blog posts, managed social media accounts and maintained the website. The owners sold up and retired and I stayed on until the last wine was sold. From processing orders, exporting wine, managing inventory and working the tasting room, I do it all. Retail Manager
-
Apr 2013 - Nov 2017
Manager of two retail shops, one focused on quality footwear and the other on colourful clothing, with a combined staff of 5-10. Proactively monitored stock and communicated with warehouse manager, business owner and other store managers regularly. Assisted with purchasing and quality control across multiple stores. Built a supportive team in a fun environment and collected enough shoes to last my lifetime. General Manager

Mar 2008 - Jan 2012
Managed a 200+ seat restaurant open for coffee, lunch and dinner service. Designed menus and print marketing materials, ran social media campaigns, coordinated events and maintained an exceptionally high level of service. Created new simplified roster system and wrote staff training manual. Developed wine tasting knowledge and wrote a unique and balanced wine list. Offered wine training for staff and tasting sessions for customers. I still miss the people from this job. Also it was the reason I moved to NZ. Show less

Research Assistant

Sep 2004 - Apr 2008
Administered and supervised studies using human subjects. Ensured proper performance of laboratory procedures. Wrote successful grant to fund graduate research. Mentored undergraduate students. Authored two papers which were published in scientific peer-reviewed journals. Enjoyed my quiet evenings in the lab, tackling challenging problems and writing up results. Did not enjoy the repetitive nature of the work so I ducked out of the PhD program and finished a Masters degree instead. Administered and supervised studies using human subjects.
