      • A yearlong research and development placement being entrusted with an individually led lab-based project in the epigenetics department of the immuno-inflammation therapy area. • This involved analysing the mechanism of action, at the chromatin level, of potential compounds for a lead programme in the department using chromatin immunoprecipitation assays in CD4+ T cells. • Competent in lab techniques such as qPCR (sybr green, TaqMan and primer design), ChIPqPCR, RNA & DNA extraction, PBMC and immune cell isolation, flow cytometry and MSD immunoassay. This enabled me to gain confidence and experience in independent lab work and a responsibility to produce reliable and informative data. • The chance to work in a team to investigate the epigenetic landscape of a gene and communicate these findings to the department to enable future work on a novel target. • Presentation of my own and other people’s data in departmental meetings and the departments journal club highlighting clear and effective communication skills. • Written communication through recording experiments and producing a final report of 5000 words concluding the work carried out in my project.
