  Research Interests Mikiko's research interests within the field of international and comparative education as well as of sociology of education are as follows: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD); International development cooperation and education; Theories and methodologies in (meta-) evaluation; Multicultural education/ intercultural learning, and Global citizenship education. Current research on ESD: historical, holistic and critical discourse analysis of development and sustainable development at the global, international and national levels; comparing of social, cultural and political process of translating ESD discourse in different societies taking cases of Japan and Sweden; investigations about how policy and discourse are implemented and perceived at the school and societal levels.Teaching and supervisionMikiko teaches the following courses within the Master´s degree program in International and Comparative Education: International and Comparative Education, Educational Planning, Education and Development, Qualitative Research Methodology, Educational Reform, and Educational Management and Leadership.
