I was responsible for maintaining a fleet of photocopiers, typewriters, printers, duplicating machines and letter sorters for the public and separate schools in Saskatoon. It was my job to keep the customers happy by keeping their equipment running, no matter how many other service calls were coming in. It was challenging keeping all of this equipment running in 53 different schools in Saskatoon, but I really enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed the "people" aspect of my job, getting to know my customers on a first name basis, and often visiting with them while doing a repair. This experience has really served me well, as I learned to listen not only to what the customer complaint was, but to listen for opportunities to suggest equipment upgrades which would result in time savings for them. Listening to the customer and working with them towards a solution is always a gratifying feeling.

I worked at these businesses concurrently, doing repair of personal electronic equipment. It enabled me to really develop keen troubleshooting skills. It also provided me with the opportunity to develop my communication skills with customers, who were largely non-technical people, so I could explain the reason for the device failure, and the appropriate remedial action.
