As a software developer, Mike Treml is determined, creative, curious, reliable, and persistent. Those are critical qualities for a productive developer, but they're even more important for being a good consultant and a good teammate. When someone works with Mike, they know they can count on him. I try to avoid cliches when I write recommendations, but I can't help saying that Mike goes above and beyond. He stretches outside the limits of what's reasonably expected. He surprises me with contributions to the company that I wasn't expecting for months, particularly in product development and internal process efficiency. I will never forget the time I had to tell Mike Treml that he's never again allowed to work 93 hours in a single week while he works at Caf2Code. That's how far above and beyond this man goes. Mike is an authentic, friendly, and honest person who maintains a positive outlook and a can-do attitude. He uses these characteristics to help build a high-functioning team. Mike is a rare gem of a developer who brings direct, robust end-user experience to the job. His warehouse management and business process knowledge help him deliver solutions, documentation, and understanding in a way that less experienced or one-dimensional developers simply cannot. He's constantly building new knowledge, and - importantly - documenting and sharing that knowledge with the team in a structured, easily accessible way. Mike is a joy to work with, truly an ideal employee and team mate. I'm grateful every day to have him on our staff.

Mike and I attended the same devCodeCamp cohort in the Fall of 2020, both of us having some prior experience in software/web-dev. We were first paired together based on our respective strengths (mine, front-end and his, back-end) and co-authored a simple AJAX script that spoke to the .NET business logic and database. Upon entering the refactor phase of this project, I began to observe how quickly Michael was able to grasp core programming concepts and easily apply them across different languages, which helped us time and time again: Once more in a .NET mobile SPA called Curbhoppers as part of a slightly larger group where he rose to the occasion as Team Lead; And finally in a Flask data-science project, having learned Python only 3 days beforehand and parsing over 16,000 individual JSON objects. He even wrote a custom script that was able to return the datasets based on a percentage match to the search!! By now our well-established workflow dynamic allowed the other to play to his strengths, knowing Mike had the back-end and I the front, enriching the learning experience to the extent that both parties were able to be passionately operating both within—AND beyond—their comfort zones.
