As director of design and operations at Mullan Lighting, I oversee a diverse range of departments and processes. A key requirement for this position is continually communicating with the various divisions within the design and manufacturing departments. This is to ensure a consistent and coherent flow of production and design is always achieved. This is mainly achieved through daily and weekly meetings with team leaders and department heads. Ensuring each department communicates with each other is essential in producing high quality products, especially for bespoke projects. This acts as a large proportion of my weekly tasks. Continuous improvement is required for growth and is a key driving force in maintaining success. My responsibility is to identify areas that can be developed further and that can add value to the overall system. Key identifiers in this is our manufacturing system and product design development. Having a seamless, efficient, lean manufacturing operation is vital in remaining competitive. Innovation inspires my productivity and is at the essence of each new design and development. Ceasing opportunities and taking calculated risks is an asset I offer to the team and has allowed for the expansion and introduction of new manufacturing departments with the end goal of introducing new product lines. Key Responsibilities: • Brand Development• Product Design & Manufacturing• Manufacturing Process Development & Improvements• Online Sales Growth• New Market EntryMy time as an operations manager in Mullan Lighting, was spent working across a number of divisions. A large portion of my time was spent developing the Mullan brand through product design development, new market growth strategies and creating an online website sales platform. During this time, Mullan was in the early stages of business development. I was successfully part of the small team that established Mullan in the UK and European markets. This was mainly through the attendance at trade shows such as MAISON&OBJET in Paris. Product design development placed a critical role in promoting the Mullan brand at trade shows. I was responsible for creating designs that our target market and industry were seeking. This seen our traditional pub and church style lighting transition into more vintage, industrial-style, modern and contemporary fittings. Adapting to the needs of our target audience is a continual process and requires research and prototype development skills. I identified that establishing a niche in the lighting design and manufacturing industry was crucial in winning large projects. I understood that our manufacturing system was a controllable factor in the process that we could make more seamless. Our advancement in a lean manufacturing process was pivotal and has become a recognised selling factor. As our team at Mullan began to expand, I was confident in handing over responsibility of the individual departments to skilled team leaders. Show less
