  Marine Environmental Protection is the focus.The Marine Pollution Response Service (MPRS) leads oil spill response in New Zealand.MPRS delivers robust decisions and technical advice in high-pressure environments.The Senior Oil Spill Planning Advisor is responsible for the planning functions for oil spill preparedness and oil spill response from local to national scales. This role is important to New Zealand’s marine pollution response preparedness if an efficient and effective response capability that will meet legislative requirements and political and public expectations is to be maintained.Response preparedness is achieved via thorough planning, sound processes and systems thinking, continuous improvement, and excellence in information and knowledge transfer. Core Skills:- project management- data capture, processing and mobilisation- process development- quality assurance, evaluationAll MPRS staff are National Response Team members (for spill response).We respond where situations that are too extreme for the Regional Council teams to handle.The NRT also supports many Pacific Island nations when they have shipping incidents: I have supported the Southern Phoenix incident in Suva (2017) and the Solomon Trader incident (Rennel Island, 2019).The MPRS Planning team also oversee the offshore industry's Contingency Plans.Want to know more about spill response?
