I worked closely with Mike in a number of difficult and sometimes contentious negotitions and grievance arbitrations. He was highly motivated and well prepared at all times.

Throughout my career as an administrator, I had plenty of occasions to negotiate with several union leaders. Some were argumentative for the sake of arguing while other tried to resolve issues and come to a common ground. This latter group of Union Leaders saw and fought for consistency and fairness by both sides and truly wanted the betterment of the agency. It was when this group of Union Leaders worked in conjunction with the administration in a true partnership, that the organization as a whole progressed. I saw Mike (in his Union Roles) as a partner. Someone who would walk into my office and tell me when myself or management personnel had made a mistake; and someone also willing to go back to his Union membership and explain managements perspective when management was correct. Mike was a guy who rolled up his sleeves and fought hard for his membership when they were right, and looked to mitigate the fallout when his members were wrong. It isn’t often that an administrator can say that more often than not, after negotiating with Mike, neither side left feeling as though they had lost.

Certified through CT POST in 1990 as a Middletown Auxillairy Police Officer. Then in 1992 I was sworn in as a full time police officer. Promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1998. From there I was fortunate enough to be part of many units within the police department including the departments tactical team SWAT and even served as its commander for five years. I served as the supervisor of the departments Special Investigations Unit until my retirement is 2011. Certified through CT POST in 1990 as a Middletown Auxillairy Police Officer. Then in 1992 I was sworn in as a full time police officer. Promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1998. From there I was fortunate enough to be part of many units within the police department including the departments tactical team SWAT and even served as its commander for five years. Held the title of President seven terms as well as several other possitions in the executive board in my twenty year carrer. Responsibilities included labor relations between the members of the police department and the City Of Middletown,.In addition worked on contract negotiations that ended up being decided at the state labor board. Also worked on resolving health and safety issues witin the Middletown Police Department through communication and if needed the greivance procedure described in the CBA.
