Mike's strength was his ability to introduce new concepts and processes in an organization, then manage their introduction and implementation without the need for very much oversight or management. Early in the development of network based applications, especially electronic mail, Mike identified the need for a unique identifier for each person that would use network based applications in order to eliminate synonyms. Once the concept was agreed upon by the Human Resources Dept.. and Data Center Management, I asked Mike to set about the project of coordinating the start of the electronic Employee ID (E-ID) to be used to identify each employee for network application use, and later for single sign-on mainframe application authority. The new idea became so commonly used and accepted that in todays' environment, no one can imagine that it has not always been done this way. Mike can turn complex projects into quality deliverables, and can function without major day to day management.
