Manager, Sport Development

The Manager of Sports Tourism was charged with the primary responsibility of identifying, targeting and securing sport related events and conferences for the economic benefit of the city and the member partners. This was done through my understanding and knowledge of both the local and international sports industry and my continued relationship building with the hospitality and service industry. In an effort to coordinate the cities sports business community I re-established the Vancouver Sports Tourism Task Force an industry network of sports groups, facility operators, city councillors, city staff and event planners whose goal is to establish Vancouver as a recognised sport host destination. In 2008, the sport tourism office compiled and produced a marketing document that lead to Vancouver being recognised as the Ultimate Sports City in the Americas by Sport Business International.

General Manager

 Oversaw daily operations of multi purpose ice and sports arena including developed operating procedures to improve overall processes and efficiencies.  Prepared annual budget in excess of $1.5 million detailing anticipated program revenues and operating forecasts. Provided monthly and quarterly reports on facility performance including all revenues, tenant incomes and operating expenses. Hired and supervised a team of over 60 employees including maintenance, food & beverage and program delivery staff. Implemented staff training programs and “mentoring” systems. Negotiated service and employee contracts (union & non–union). Liaised directly with all user groups, sports and community associations on all programs and events in the facility.

Recreation Director

 Managed all recreation activities at the private, multi–use recreation facility including created, promoted and delivered innovative recreation programs for club members as well as purchased required sports equipment Provided annual department budget, hired program staff including sports professionals. Liaised with volunteer sports committees on the promotion of special events, development of programs, fundraising and sponsorship and represented the club at negotiations for both Provincial and High school events (tennis, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, swimming, and squash).
