Mike and I have worked together over the past 20 years at Data Ventures on various projects for key clients such as The Coca-Cola Company, Ahold Delhaize , Proctor and Gamble, Coca-Cola Consolidated Bottling Company, Capgemini and Royal Dutch Shell. Mike is an accomplished senior data scientist with a broad skill set covering advanced statistical analysis, machine learning, and neural networks as well as proprietary algorithms used in forecasting, anomaly detection and measurement of Out of Shelf events and sales losses. He has a unique ability to clearly explain even the most complex data mining techniques in ways that are easily understood by team members and clients. Mike would be a great asset to any team with the breadth of his experience and his ability and desire to mentor other data scientists. It has been an honor working with him as Director of Global Analytics in delivering value to our clients over the years.

Mike and I worked together on many projects, and he has been a excellent mentor and teammate to me. I learned a lot from him, including complicated data science algorithms, programming tricks, and different aspects of our business. What impressed me the most was that Mike was able to explain any topic clearly and concisely, no matter how intricate they were. As I got to know him, I learned he is also an adjunct professor in a local university in his spare time. His students are so lucky to have him in the classroom. Mike has a deep understanding of mathematics and computer science. At Data Ventures, he was never satisfied with the superficial data analysis that clients ask for. He always tried hard to uncover the pattern behind the scene, and often succeeded because of his strong technical background. He can master any programming language in 3 days, which is very impressive to me. It is my privilege and honor to have worked with Mike for many years. No doubt he will be a valuable asset and main contributor to any data science team and business.

I developed and applied statistical learning algorithms to the real-world problems of our clients. These included Bayesian and non-parametric statistics, the use of information theory, and so on. It can take a lot of hard work to properly cast client questions into testable hypotheses and to develop actionable solutions. - I developed and maintained a collection of fraud detection and reporting algorithms for the New York Mercantile Exchange. These codes and reports allow for the surveillance of broker trading and customer commodity contract positions. - I worked with district attorneys in New Mexico to unify more than 30 disparate criminal databases across 13 judicial districts. We build a robust, scalable system that supports data management, electronic discovery, automatic document production, and paperless offices. - I helped design the probability model for an out-of-stock system that uses only point-of-sales data and so is inventory agnostic. The system helps identify opportunities for making improvements to minimize sales losses. Show less
