As founder and President of Handy Hygiene at UAB, I have the responsibility of overlooking events, ensuring leaders and volunteers are following protocol, leading meetings, and working alongside different organizations and facilities in preparation for events. I believe that there is a need for hygiene essentials in our community. Handy Hygiene at UAB ensures that the most vulnerable individuals in Birmingham are supplied with hygiene essentials and educated on good hygiene health.

    • Neurobiology Research Expo (Summer 2023)
      • Jul 2023 - Jul 2023

During UAB's Summer of 2023 research expo, my lab partner and I presented our project on motor dysfunction in Rett Syndrome mice. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disability that manifests cognitive and behavioral impairments. These dysfunctionalities include repetitive behaviors, motor inabilities, and decreased social skills. RTT is caused by mutations in the MECP2 gene, which is situated on the X chromosome. Our hypothesis was tested by creating mice with this conditional MECP2 deficiency. In this study, we compared two mice groups: MECP2 knockouts and controls. Altogether, this study clearly reveals the significance of impaired cerebellar function in RTT, which contributes to various neurological and neuropsychological aspects of this neurological brain dysfunction. Presented my summer research project about drought stress in Arabidopsis thaliana. I communicated efficiently to judges and other visitors at the event about the purpose of my project, along with how the results will benefit agriculture and future biological research.

    • UAB Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Intern
      • Jun 2021 - Jul 2021

      - As an intern with the UAB Department of Biology, I assisted and conducted plant biology and genetics research. Under the guidance of Dr. Shahid Muhktar and Dr. Karolina Muhktar, I was able to successfully contribute to graduate research studies and present our findings at a biological/biomedical research EXPO. - The purpose of this experiment was to determine if Arabidopsis thaliana gene expressions would positively alter themselves when placed under drought stress. With global warming negatively impacting agriculture and ecosystems across the world, many plant researchers are yearning for a solution to improve the survival rate of plants within this new climate change.
