The laboratory I was working in was evolving a project, which final aim was to create functional bone tissue that is needed in medicine and odontology. My main responsibilities were to evaluate the impact of various 3D printed polylactic acid (PLA) scaffold’s modifications on rat’s dental pulp stem cells’ fate. During my internship, I have: - Gained hands-on experience in extracting stem cells from tissues, growing them in vitro, studying adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. - Collaborated with odontologists in order to create artificial bone tissue for damaged bone replacement. - Analysed stem cells’ response to the 3D printed PLA scaffolds’ structure and composition. Other responsibilities included designing experiments, ordering reagents, interpreting data as well as preparing poster and oral presentations in conferences. Conferences and awards: - Kalvaityte M (presenter), Alksnė M, Šimoliūnas E, Bukelskienė V. The Impact of PLA Scaffold Micro-Structurizationon Rat's Dental Pulp Stem Cells Osteogenic Differentiation in vitro. Best Poster Presentation award in the international conference“TheCOINS 2017“ (2017-02-28 –03-02, Vilnius, Lithuania). - Kalvaityte M (presenter), Alksnė M, Šimoliūnas E, Bukelskienė V. The Impact of Scaffold Microstructure on Dental Pulp Stem Cells Osteogenic Differentiation. Second Best Oral Presentation award in the international conference “TheCOINS 2018“ (2018-02-28 –03-02, Vilnius, Lietuva). - Kalvaitytė M (presenter), Alksnė M, Šimoliūnas E, Bukelskienė V.
