My research broadly focuses on understanding the many interacting causes that lead people to have serious emotional and behavioral problems, while others remain resilient. I study general and maladaptive personality traits that underlie tendencies to develop psychopathology. This research line investigates causes and the assessment of personality disorders. I specifically focus on (1) externalizing pathology in adulthood, including psychopathy and antisocial personality disorder, (2) psychopathic traits and working behavior (“successful psychopathy”), (3) developmental antecedents of psychopathy and personality disorders, including callous-unemotional traits in children and adolescents, (4) biological underpinnings of personality pathology in younger age, and (5) personality pathology and relationship outcomes.Further, I teach classes for Personality Psychology, a course given to 3th year bachelor students in Psychology. In this course, I teach on personality assessment in a forensic context. Show less

My doctoral dissertation is entitled "Psychopathy and associated personality pathology: A dimensional approach", and examined the ability of both general and maladaptive personality models to describe and conceptualize psychopathy and associated personality pathology in adulthood and in adolescence. For this dissertation, I collected data from both forensic psychiatric inpatients, and men and adolescents from the general population. Results showed that these externalizing personality disorders can be assessed using general and maladaptive trait models from adolescence onwards.During this period, I have been teaching practical courses in Personality Psychology. This course is given to 3th year bachelor students in Clinical Psychology. Show less
