As Managing Director, I oversee all operational aspects of Scaffpad Europe Ltd. Following the buy-out of my long-term business partner, I decided to rebrand the company and redevelop the scaffpad itself using a superior high viz orange fabric, a higher UV rating of 50+ and an extended bespoke colour range.I continuously look for ways to improve our existing range through close relationships with our customers, taking into account their constantly evolving needs.I am always trying to identify new and innovative uses for our existing products, a process that also involves our customers and those looking to find a solution to their own safety and environmental protection needs. Operating in our current economic climate brings new challenges that I relish.

Key ResponsibilitiesFrom original product conception, testing, and development of the scaffpad, I have been the force driving product development. Manufacturing the scaffpad at home on a domestic sewing machine in the very beginning; making enhancements as and when required; I saw the company grow from a home-based business, through a partnership, to becoming a limited company in 2007. Throughout this time, I was closely involved with all aspects of the business and worked closely with my customers to ensure their needs were met in the right way with the right product, at the right time. In 2010 the company went global and our network of distributors has grown from there.

      • Jan 1993 - Jan 2001

Worked within the offshore catering industry on rigs and platforms in the North Sea. During my last year offshore I started setting up my own soft furnishings business with the aim of leaving once I had an established clientele. Towards the end of my time offshore I was approached by the Scaffolding Supervisor, after a safety meeting, and asked if I could find a better solution than rags and barrier tape for protecting people and equipment from protruding scaffolding joints.Sent home with two short scaffolding poles and a coupling bracket, I rose to the challenge and the scaffpad was born.

After my florist business folded, I worked at Ladysbridge, a hospital treating patients with mental health problems, as a cleaner. I had an excellent relationship with the patients and staff and was ultimately approached by the Staff Nurse to train as a psychiatric nurse, but at the same time I was also offered the opportunity to work offshore and chose the latter. Having served an apprenticeship with a florist when I left school, Begemans Interflora, I set up my own florist shop after returning from three years in Germany, and ran this business successfully for a year. Unfortunately, when large supermarkets opened up nearby, the business wasn’t able to hold its own against much bigger rivals and I was forced to close.
