Dissertation topic: Spatial Variability of Porosity Modifying Processes (Early Diagenesis) on Isolated PlatformsAdvisor: Dr. Eugene C. RankeyInvestigating constructive and destructive reef processes (bioerosion, encrustation, and cementation) in the western Pacific island nation of Kiribati. This study includes characterization of the nature and intensity of bioerosion and encrustation on an isolated carbonate platform (Aranuka Atoll, Kiribati) and explores spatial variability, character, extent, and petrophysical signature of early marine cementation in the context of potential controls on three atolls in Kiribati.Selected Presentations: Mary, M., and Rankey, E.C., 2015, Early porosity and petrophysical evolution of reef-associated carbonates: Kansas Interdisciplinary Carbonates Consortium Annual Meeting, Lawrence, KS: Oral PresentationMary, M., Rankey, E.C., and Uriam, T., 2014, Spatial variability in the character and extent of early marine cementation: American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention, Houston, TX: Poster PresentationMary, M., Rankey, E.C., and Uriam, T., 2013, Ichnologically influenced porosity on a Holocene isolated platform: American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention, Pittsburgh, PA: Oral PresentationMary, M., and Rankey, E.C., 2012, Trends in bioerosion and encrustion on a Holocene carbonate platform: Geological Society of America Annual Meeting, Charlotte, NC: Poster Presentation(see links below for selected abstracts) Show less

Worked with the Carbonate Research Group on a research project investigating the generation of microporosity with burial in carbonate slope sediments from the Great Australian Bight. This project involved selecting appropriate samples, SEM imaging, petrographic analysis, evaluation of existing data sets, modeling of geochemical data, and porosity and permeability evaluation and classification using image analysis techniques and Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) testing.
