Proctor
-
Sep 2014 - Apr 2015
As a Proctor with the Residential Safety Office, I am responsible for maintaining a secure environment within the residence hall in which I am monitoring during my shift. I control who gains access to the building, by verifying resident's identity via photo identification and "swiping" them into the building, or logging them in manually if they are without their university ID. I am also responsible for signing in guests of residents and ensuring residents are safe and secure. I must be stern with guests to the building to make certain they do not try to gain unauthorized access.

Research Assistant
-
Jul 2014 - Apr 2015
In my role as a research assistant to Kathryn Connaghan, Ph.D., CCC-SLP in the CadLab, I have learned many new skills applicable to both general research and research in the field of speech-language pathology. I learned how to use software such as Praat and Audacity to analyze and parse sound files, respectively. I contribute in almost every step of the academic research process, from conducting preliminary literature reviews to formatting and editing a poster for a poster session. I learned how to use the laboratory's software for completing trials of experiments, and have run listeners for a listening experiment and will run speaking participants in a later study. I compiled and created new training modules for future research assistants in the lab to use when they are learning how to do Acoustic Analysis. I developed the emergency procedures manual for the lab to use and keep as a reference in case of future emergencies, based off university policies and including elements specific to the lab.
