With half my day as an in-class support teacher, I collaborate with my co-teachers to implement supports and strategies to improve learning outcomes. Analyzing student performance, I recommend and monitor interventions for struggling students. I summarize data and write progress reports to present at annual review meetings. Additionally, I manage smaller pull-out classes for language and learning disabled students, often creating materials and assessments from scratch that relate to specific learning goals and objectives. I promote new initiatives, such as facilitating in-house jobs for Career Education classes. Show less

Taught English/Language Arts, Career Education, Social Skills, Community Based Instruction & Transition for 16-21 year olds with ASD. Constructed measurable learning goals and objectives based on data to inform revision of student Individualized Education Plans. I envisioned and executed meaningful and experiential learning for students. For example, I turned my classroom into a live cafe called "The Snack Shack" serving refreshments to staff so that students could practice hard and soft job skills. Fostered warm and trusting rapport with classroom team, parents, and administrators. Show less

Taught 9th and 11th grade Literature and Creative Writing to classes of 25-30 each. With creativity and building rapport as major strengths, I developed a memorable, affirming, and challenging learning culture in my classroom. One of my favorites was simulating The Canterbury Tales, when I had students talk a "pilgrimage" around the school, telling stories along the way, and finishing at a shrine to the school mascot.
