Michelle is an accomplished leader, grounded technologist, and all round super human. As a leader she is able to manage seamlessly up, down and sideways. Perhaps this could be said of many executives. However, she is particularly able to manager disparate groups of personalities and make each person feel directly connected to the team's strategy, and empowered to implement it. I reported to Michelle as a consequence of Telstra acquiring my company. I had not had a manager in 10+ years yet Michelle ensured the transition was personally empowering. As a technologist she understands technology but moreover its commercial application. This grounded knowledge provides Michelle with keen insight into bringing new technology products and offerings to market. Impressively, this knowledge also allows Michelle to understand incumbent technology products and offerings, and their impact on customers. As a person, she has broad interests and is always interested in people. I often marvelled at her ability to take time our of her very busy days, to just walk the floor and engage effortlessly with her teams on a personal level. With many thousands of people across her teams, this was not a small feat!

Michelle has a unique ability to get to the crux of an issue quickly. She will ask lots of open ended questions to draw out the facts and understand what’s going on. Once she’s done that, she will articulate crisply what the next actions are and allocate responsibility so that others are empowered to deliver. However, she won’t stop there and will keep checking in until the desired outcome has been delivered. Her clarity of strategy and execution skills are extraordinary. I had the privilege of working with her over a two year period as her primary legal advisor. I am in awe of how much positive change she led and how she transformed Telstra’s Global Products business in a relatively short time. Michelle would be an asset to any organisation seeking a highly capable leader and executive with a proven track record for getting business results.
