Michel Krief, known in Rock Physics for his famous Krief models, is an acoustic petrophysics genius and a true professional. He has the unique ability to integrate and view petrophysics through acoustic insight. He has great experience and expertise in carbonate as well as clastics. I had the opportunity to adopt his classic rock physics characterization work in middle-east during my tenure there. I was also privileged to work with him on an Elsevier book we wrote together. His current plan, to repurpose legacy acoustic log data for classical geophysical studies (and also petrophysical, geomechanical studies) as valid inputs in modern Machine Learning applications, is of great value to the acoustics and the general petrophysics world.
Hussain Najwani
Michel's experience combines academic and business aspects of petrophysics. His wide experience is helpful in acquiring and evaluating log data in addition to analysing density and sonic logs for advance geophysical studies. The later places Michel in a special category.

Acoustic logs (density, sonic, shear sonic) are used for lithology and rock facies characterization in addition to porosity, saturation, and permeability (matrix limestone). The understanding of the velocities of compressional and shear waveforms is essential to the proper modeling of acoustic & elastic properties of rocks. The BGK model (my version of the Biot & Gassmann low frequency models) is a simple model that fits this purpose.

A seasoned Petrophysicist working from home or on site depending on your needs. I can help you solve database problems (e.g. QC and repair of stored acoustic data). My knowledge of legacy tools (I started as a logging engineer in 1975) can be put to good use for database and/or interpretive problem solving.

Petrophysics - Standard and expert petrophysical data analysisRock Physics - Acoustic and elastic rock properties, from QC to interpretation and modelingBiot-Gassmann-Krief model (BGK model)- A model for improving the integration of Geophysics, Geomechanics and Petrophysics in a single coherent framework.- A generic Rock Physics model, based on Biot and Gassmann coefficients, that handles separately, but in a consistent manner, the observed changes of dynamic bulk and shear moduli. Two parameters are used (Biot-Krief exponent, Gassmann-Krief exponent) that are extracted from measured sonic and shear sonic logs. The two exponents may be correlated to physical properties of the rock formation (for example: pore aspect ratio in consolidated rocks, matrix permeability).- Toolkits exist for acoustic logs QC, edit, interpretation: TECHLOG 2016.2 (Python scripts), GEOLOG 6.7 (Loglan modules). Similar toolkits may be developed on other software platforms.Co-author of the Handbook of Borehole Acoustics and Rock Physics for Reservoir Characterization, (Vimal Saxena (main author) and Ludmila Adam, Elsevier Ed. 2018).
