    • Thesis assignment at NFGB
      • Jan 2010 - May 2010

The assignment consisted of a research into the feasibility of the desired distributing party of FootGolf, golf courses. FootGolf is a new sport which is a combination of football and golf and was launched in September 2009 with the Dutch National Championship. The Dutch FootGolf is currently working on making a commercial success of FootGolf in order to generate money. The first step is to assure locations where one can play FootGolf, which, based on the concept of FootGolf, are golf courses. To assess whether this is a feasible distributing party a research had to be conducted. The assignment has been a challenge because FootGolf is a new concept, with only few information available. However, being able to look at the development of a new sport has provided a great learning experience. Show less

I came back to Steppin' Out after I finished my internship at St. Maarten to work until I had to start with my thesis assignment in January 2010. I enjoyed working at Steppin' Out in 2008, in addition it was a very educative experience and therefore I applied again for a part-time job. • Regatta Stagiare
      • Sep 2008 - Apr 2009

The event started in 1980 and over the years became the biggest sailing event in the Caribbean. Participants and volunteers come from all over the world to participate (many from the Netherlands and the United States of America). In 2008 250 boats participated, followed by 210 participating boats in 2009. This decrease in numbers was due to the economical situation. During my internship I worked on several individual projects, including the VIP Program and Kids Art Competition. In addition, my main project was to transform the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta into a environmentally friendly Regatta. In order to achieve the Bronze level as a 'Clean Regatta' (an initiative from Sailors for the Sea) the Regatta implemented the use of environmentally friendly products (cups, toilet paper, etc.), reduced the use of paper (during the whole year rather than only during registration) and the boats were equipped with an oil mop kit. Creating a sense of awareness has been very valuable for the island of St. Maarten and its inhabitants. Responsibility and initiative were the key factors of my internship. I got the responsibility to contract new (smaller-scaled) sponsors and preserve the relationship with existing sponsors. In addition I have been involved in the organisation of two other regattas in the Caribbean; The Course de L'Alliance and the Budget Marine's Women's Championship. I have visited the Culebra International Heineken Regatta in Puerto Rico in order to experience another side of a regatta, that of a volunteer. Show less

It is a part time job to make some money before I leave on an internship. However it is a great company with very enthusiastic and ambitious colleagues. It is a place where I feel very comfortable and I enjoy myself inmensely. It also offers me the opportunity to develop myself in the retail industry by offering different kinds of trainings.
