Bio
Amanda Ziemann
I have known Michal through the remote sensing community for nearly a decade, and have collaborated with her in recent years through working groups, conferences, and research. In short, Michal is a superhuman. She is an incredible scientist, engineer, teacher, manager, and colleague — while many people would hope to be strong in any one of those areas, Michal excels at all of them (and then some). She also has an amazing awareness of state-of-the-art remote sensing research, and as a result, has a unique knack for making connections between people from across the community. This is evidenced by her active participation in IEEE, SPIE, and NATO remote sensing groups, and in particular by her role as Technical Program Chair for the 2021 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), where she played an integral role in adeptly adapting the symposium to a virtual setting in light of the pandemic. (It was a huge success!) Her technical skills are outstanding, and she is also a fantastic communicator — as a result, her work is highly respected and her opinion is heavily sought-after. She has extremely insightful perspectives, and I am always amazed by the depth and breadth of her remote sensing research experience. Michal is a person that people *want* to work with, and for good reason. Her approach to collaborative work is inspiring, and she lifts up those around her; all those that know her are better for it, myself included.

Michal and I have worked together for almost eight years on a range of research tasks. I have the utmost respect for her professionalism, diligence, and dynamic attitude to 'getting the job done'. She is acknowledged justifiably as one of the top international researchers in her field of hyperspectral imaging - truly an asset to our organization. She motivates herself at an unimaginably high work rate across the complete range of scientific assignments: a masterful organizer of field trials and laboratory experiments, solid publisher in excellent peer-reviewed periodicals, a decisive project manager and a skilful presenter. Notwithstanding all this, she still finds precious time to support and socialize with her colleagues. I am fortunate to consider her a close friend and mentor. Gareth
