I worked on multiple projects in the energy and resources sector ranging from asset maintenance procedure development, pumping and piping projects involving various fluids (incl. hazardous), to the design of a large maintenance workshop. As part of this, I gained additional experience with designing to AS standards and client specifications, developing quality deliverables, and communicating effectively with clients and stakeholders. Projects:  BHP Yarnima Power Station, Design of permeate water, sulphuric acid, and oxidising biocide dosing  BHPIO Wind Fences, Asset maintenance procedure study and design, Port Hedland  BHPIO Mining Area C (MAC), Dual-arm fuel loading facility design  Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA), Utah sump pump upgrades, Port Hedland  BHPIO (MAC), Design of new OHP3 South Flank fixed plant workshop  RTIO Koodaideri Airport, Fuel facility upgrades  Synergy Muja Power Station, Deposition ring main design  Many more. PHD Thesis: Self-tuning and Adaptive Control of Building Systems Under Uncertainty Due to family considerations and personal experience in such a theory-focused environment, I decided that the design, innovation, and completion of real-world engineering projects offered a more gratifying personal and professional experience for me compared to a career in academia. • Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer / Drafter
      • Feb 2018 - Feb 2019

Projects: • My role as a drafter an undergraduate engineer for GPA engineering has allowed me to first-hand experience the workflow of an experienced engineering consultancy. I have greatly developed my skills in the drafting of electrical and instrumentation (EI) diagrams and P&ID schematics for mining companies and have frequently been assigned with performing engineering checks on drawings. • I participated regularly in client meeting and on several occasions assisted with drafting decisions as well as discussions involving large greenfield and brownfield mining projects. • I regularly communicated with project managers as part of my role and assisted in securing new contracts for GPA. • Research Assistant/ Draftsman/ Technical Staff
      • Nov 2016 - Jun 2017

Projects: • I was assigned with the design of a variable-grid bracket for use with a sugar cane shredder. The finished device was to be used by QUT staff for experimental laboratory testing and had stringent design and safety criteria. I communicated effectively with my supervisor by weekly progress reports and fortnightly meetings, and delivered this project successfully on time. The final project was submitted as a report with a full set of engineering drawings and a robust 3D solid model. • I managed to optimise the design within their criteria using a single grid bracket, rather than the multiple brackets as initially envisioned, saving material and labour costs. Due to my background as a metal fabricator, I was assigned the task of building the grid bracket. The bracket was assembled using outsourced pre-fabricated plates and laser cut components made to the specifications on the technical drawings. The final product was made of high build quality accurate to within 1 mm of the solid model. • Following the success of the shredder bracket design, I was subsequently employed for various other tasks. My technical background and manufacturing skills meant that I was quickly entrusted to perform tasks without supervision. Furthermore, my experience with jigs and fixtures, as well as my systematic approach, allowed me to standardise and simplify the existing manufacturing methods. This resulted in an increased productivity and fewer mistakes in the final products. Show less

  • Brisbane Tray Bodys
    • 39 McRoyle Street, Wacol, Qld 4076
    • Design draftsman
      • Jan 2012 - Jul 2013

Projects: • I designed and developed 3D models of Mine spec tray-bodies and vehicle internal roll-over protection systems (ROPS) to Australian design rules (ADR), in collaboration with R&D department for Australian mine sites. These designs were accepted with no iterations required, prior to client’s deadline. The high quality of work and rapid turnaround, led to additional orders and increased interest in the company and workshop capabilities. • Converted old workshop drawings into 3D models, enabling rapid customization options and streamlining of parts across the available range. This resulted in lower inventory requirements, reduced wastage and fewer mistakes by workshop personnel. • Suggested, designed and implemented the use of part numbering systems, to identify products from vehicle make, model and year. This enabled the sales department to easily access available product ranges, accessories and options as well as identifying gaps in available designs. • Proposed and organised training of colleagues in basic use of eDrawings, Solidworks and AutoCAD in order to improve communication, productivity and reduce the information gap between sales, R&D and management. • Fabricator
      • 2010 - 2011

Projects: • Designed, fabricated and modified existing agricultural equipment to improve suitability and performance for use in difficult scenarios. As a result of the project optimised equipment, the company’s ability to quote competitively was positively affected. • Advised management and landscaping staff on technical requirements for projects at hand, which enabled accurate cost quoting and better decision making. • Calculated time and cost for all fabrication jobs and sourced competitive quotes on parts, components and steel. • Vehicle Body Builder/Fabricator
      • 2003 - 2010

My job at National Transport Engineering allowed me to fabricate truck dollies, semitrailers, trays, tippers, mobile accommodation units and trailers from technical drawings. I was also trusted to design, fabricate and fit custom components to truck chassis, ensuring accordance with ADR rules. I completed my apprenticeship with this employer and was subsequently involved with the training of new staff and apprentices in technical skills required for jobs at hand. I was involved with the ordering of steel, parts, components and consumables to match the requirements for incoming jobs. I enjoyed this position and gained invaluable workshop experience which is currently assisting me in implementing sensible and manufacture-able design option in my current occupation. I am still in contact with many of the staff from this time and use their knowledge and skill sets on a regular in my current projects. Show less
