I played a key role as the creator for its first two new product lines, serving as a market analyst, industrial designer, and key product development engineer. They are the Dolphin 7200 series, which I designed for my graduate thesis and completed for mass production at the US headquarters, and first deployed by the US Postal Service from 1998 onwards with 400K units, and its high-end line extension, the Dolphin 7400 series. Both new products became category leaders on the global market and enabled Hand Held Products to transition from generating unprofitable revenue of $8 million in 1994 to a highly profitable revenue of $18 million in 1997 and revenue of $285 million in 2006. Recognizing the opportunity to enter the Auto ID and data collection market, in 2007 Honeywell acquired Hand Held Products for $390 million. The activity still holds the second largest global market share after Zebra Technologies. Hand Held Products turned around from a near-zero situation in 1995 to profitability and a decade-long revenue surge. My two original product lines significantly contributed to its acquisition.
