During the 2020 pandemic I realized it was important to continue with networking and developing my skills to help achieve a goal of mine of working in the world of sports. This desire and passion to be a part of the sports industry lead me to be an active participant in FSMU which is a virtual educational and career development series developed and executed by sport industry leaders at Fenway Sports Management and the Boston Red Sox. Through out this 12 week course I was given behind the scenes access to learn from industry professionals from the MLB, NBA, NHL, English Premier League, NASCAR, Non For Profits organizations, and many more. During my time at FSMU I had many key takeaways that I believe have helped me gain more experience about the sport industry and will be applied during the next phase of my career. A few of those takeaways are: · Networking is the best way to advance myself professionally. Stepping outside of my comfort zone and not being afraid to ask for advice or guidance from an experienced professional shows that I am dedicated to my development as a young professional. · Although we typically think of the tangible forms of sponsorship as the driving force in marketing strategy, the intangible forms are just as important. Without the intangible aspects of sponsorship, the tangible aspects do not work. · Transitioning to virtual gatherings due to COVID-19 has been extremely hard on the special events industry. However, with the flexibility technology provides, teams and companies have been able to maintain moderate to high engagement with consumers. Scenario planning and planning for future activation has been very important in terms of brand engagement. These were my biggest three takeaways because they provided my insight to what I may experience during my job search as I prepare to graduate college. The knowledge that I gained at FSMU I know will help me in the industry to become a better teammate to others and all around professional. Show less
