Coordinated the Aboriginal Youth Mentorship Program (AYMP) with 5 northern rural communities in Manitoba using the foundational principles of the 4 R’s (respect, relevance, responsibility and reciprocity) and the Circle of Courage® (belonging, mastery, independence and generosity), thus, using an Indigenous framework in research examining protective factors against Type 2 Diabetes in Indigenous youth. Scheduled, planned and travelled to communities with the aim of maintaining positive and reciprocal research partnerships. As part of a team, collected height, weight, hip and waste circumference measurements of elementary students participating in AYMP, as well as administered questionnaires to ensure rigorous data collection. Organized training opportunities for the high school mentors to ensure successful program implementation. This also included consistent communication with program stakeholders where I strived to provide support in a timely fashion, self-started tasks when applicable, and maintaining organization to ensure exceptional support in all communities. As a part of the research protocol I was also in charge of planning and organizing advisory council meetings in order to collaborate with students, school personnel, community members and elders, which allowed for problem solving opportunities. Discussed research dissemination with stakeholders and at research events, thus abiding by the First Nations Principles of OCAP (ownership, control, access and possession). As well as prepared reports including financial statements, travel bookings, reimbursement forms, and expense reports on Epic and Concur to ensure financing of program followed research grant. Attended presentations and conferences, in order to continually learn about Indigenous health and wellbeing. For example, I participated in Shaping the Future in Kananaskis, Alberta and Carleton University’s Institute on the Ethics of Research with Indigenous Peoples. Show less

Recruited and scheduled university students and administered study procedures, while respecting ethics protocol, to ensure quality data collection in the Social Relations Lab. Studies investigated power, persuasion, and empathy during intergroup interactions, as well as how different salient ideologies (multiculturalism and colour blind messages) affect judgment and decision-making. In this position I also organized and entered data in Excel and SPSS in order to prepare data for analysis. Additionally I abided by coding instructions and produced coded data in a timely fashion to supervising professor, as well as attended weekly meetings with research team to collaboratively problem solve logistics of ongoing research projects.
