  Led the Word and Sacrament ministry of the Nebraska District with regular worship services, Bible studies, visits and counseling with students, coordination with other campus ministries and with college faculty. During this time I also served as a part-time chaplain at Richard H. Young Hospital in Kearney. This is a psychiatric hospital. I led a Sunday worship service and a youth Sunday School class. I also counseled with individuals.   This was my part-time job in college and the first part of seminary. I was in the 81mm mortar platoon of the 3/24th in St. Louis. As a reservist I got some interesting training including: Amphibious Landings at Coronado Island (boarded a Higgins boat over the side); Mountain Warfare School at Pickel Meadows, California; Small Arms Repair School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
