Tenacious, committed, hardworking, honest and fearless are words that come to mind when I think of Mike Turnbull. He was the Specialist for Operating Practices for the Federal Railroad Administration Region 8 and I was one of eight inspectors that reported directly to him. His style of management allowed us to develop and hone our abilities as inspectors and accident investigators in the field to the extent that we literally broke ground in various aspects of inspection and accident reporting. Wherever he sent us we knew he had our backs and full confidence in our abilities to accurately search out our areas of responsibilities. His easy going and confident manner brought respect not only from his peers and subordinates but also with the stakeholders in the railroad industry. It was always a pleasure to work with him both in the field and in the office.
