Circular Research Foundation : Organismo di Ricerca provides services to private enterprises, professional training, process engineering and technological development. CRF's partner, LeMa Consulting, in the five-year period 2014-2019, sought to address the absence of an industrially organized knowledge chain in Italy's South Puglia region, by supporting new startups and providing training internships aimed at developing new professional skills expected to be in high demand in the coming years. The institutionalization of this activity led to establishing the research organization CRF. Michael's research explores the development of voluntary sustainability reporting standards as part of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group voluntary small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) community of practice. He advocates for public engagement in the development of international sustainability reporting for enterprises and community stakeholders in the Global South. He serves as an advisor to L Saha, a London-based fashion house, and True-Luxury Fashion Summit 2023. Show less

As principal technical officer to the Kiev Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (2003), I supported entry into force of the instrument, which was achieved in October 2009. I oversaw the launch of the Aarhus Clearinghouse for Environmental Democracy, an innovative interactive web portal of the Aarhus Convention and Kiev Protocol, serving also as its general editor; served as secretary the International PRTR Coordinating Group ‒ an interagency body of UN Environment, UNECE, UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and donor Governments ‒ dedicated to promoting PRTR development internationally, including outside of the UNECE region, notably among OECD countries and in Latin America and the Caribbean; and established the relevancy of the PRTR Protocol to intergovernmental discussions on climate change, including by organizing a side event at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 15th Conference of the Parties in Copenhagen (December 2015).
