I have worked closely with Michael on several proposals & projects and more recently when he moved into the Project Supervisor role. Michael is a dedicated, hard working young engineer who is easy to work with and delivers at or above expectation every time. Michael’s work ethic and performance is above his years and I expect he will continue to be an above average performer for the remainder of his career. It would be my pleasure to work with Michael again in the future and or recommend him for any role.

I was employed as the concrete site/ project engineer for the project. In this role I was tasked with subcontractor and supplier management, procurement, quality control, scheduling, site inspections, safety, and cost control/ forecasting. With the site foremen, I managed slab pours, footing pours, installation of bored piles and shotcrete. The pours generally ranged from 5m³ to 570m³ of 40MPa concrete and occurred daily. The pours were conducted in both Greenfield and Brownfield areas with 28 piles installed inside the coal terminal which was heavily populated with live underground services.

Site Engineer

Apr 2010 - Aug 2011
I was seconded to the Leighton Contactors construction team as an Earthworks Site Engineer. In this role I was comprehensively involved in the delivery of 40km of the rail alignment and 2km of DTMR road. From clearing and grubbing through to handover, I gained experience on all aspects of rail and road embankment civil construction as well as project engineering. Responsibilities in this role involved managing daily on-site construction activities with the general foreman, monitoring and controlling safety in line with Leighton Safety Essentials, as well as controlling quality, program and costs associated with my area of construction works. I was also responsible for subcontractor management from procurement and scoping of works to delivery and demobilisation. Project engineering duties I was frequently tasked with include end of month forecasting and reporting to the area manager, procurement as well as training new site engineers who joined the project. I was often also involved in trouble-shooting sessions with the client and senior managers over issues associated with the project including QR’s quarry management and naturally sourced material deficiencies. Through this secondment I gained multiple skills associated with civil contracting and built strong relationships which were recognised by the Alliance Manager.
