I am a member of the VFPA and Regional VFPA representative and a member of the Virginia Chapter of the IAAI Inc.--Manages the Department's Fire Code Enforcement Division (FCED). Ensures compliance withlegal, technical and administrative requirements. Works with shift commanders, Departmentofficers and others. Plans, develops, implements and manages comprehensive fire codeadministration/enforcement and fire/explosion investigation programs. Develops, establishes andadministers FCED policies and procedures for the management of resources, staff, records,reports, training and work processes.Participates in the fire inspection process. Evaluates buildingsand premises for fire code compliance. Identifies hazards and develops solutions tomitigate said hazards.Supervises and participates in the process for fire/explosion investigations to ensureadherence to fire/explosion investigation processes. Secures the scene. Inspects andevaluates the fire scene to identify area or point of origin, source of ignition, materialsignited.photographs and otherwise documents the fire scene. Collects and preserves evidenceusing proper physical and legal procedures. Interviews and questions persons to obtaininformation and evidence. Performs post-incident investigation work and follow-up,which may include presentations, issuing summonses, and court testimony.Participates in the process for design review and approval of construction plans.Participates in the development of fire systems acceptance testing procedures.Conducts/assists with fire systems testing.writing of supplemental fire code training programs. Works with the Assistant Fire Marshals, other FCEDpersonnel and fire suppression crews to observe operations/processes and identify relatedfire code, life safety or training issues.Manages and participates in the Department's public fire safety education programs.Ensures 24-hour coverage for enforcement and investigative requirements during no typicalhours. DUTIES Serves as a Firefighter with the Fire and Rescue Department (Department), Office ofPublic Safety, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (Airports Authority). Performs full performancelevel Firefighter functions in fire prevention, suppression, rescue and emergencymedical services (EMS) at the basic life support (BLS) level in airport, other publictransportation (roadway, tunnel and rail), office and community settings. Performs related duties as assigned.--Responds to and mitigates emergency incidents including, but not limited to, structural fires,aircraft accidents and/or fires, medical emergencies, automobile accidents, boating/wateraccidents, hazardous materials releases, confined space emergencies (including tunnelemergencies), terrorism-related emergencies, weather-related emergencies and otheremergencies.Performs all tasks required to mitigate an emergency such as Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician, Water Rescue Technician or Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate/Paramedic (EMT-I/P).Drives vehicle/apparatus safely and effectively. Uses proper approach routes and speed adhering to regulations and procedures to position vehicle/apparatus according to the nature of the emergency and pertinent conditions and factors. For aircraft emergencies, pertinent conditions and factors include weather and visibility and aircraft characteristics, like emergency exits and procedures for self-evacuation, cut-in areas for forcible entry, fuel tanks andother hazard areas and general occupancy capacities for effective suppression, extrication andrescue.
