I currently work as a workshop technician, I am tasked with building, stripping and assessing failures of prototype electric motors for automotive application and motorsport. I also build and modify equipment to perform different tests, along with attaching and removing electric motors from a dynamometer. My day to day duties include:• Assembly of systems, using jigs and fixtures in the case of production systems. Following quality system generated build procedures, where applicable, and feeding back any procedure, quality and assembly issues.• Accurately measuring and recording new and used components• Carry out both mechanical and electrical measurements where required on both individual components and assemblies.• Completing build records and taking images where required from instructions in both build card and procedural documentation.• Stripping and assessing failed units to localise cause of failure• Liaising with engineers about test requirements• Attaching and removing units from a dynamometer• Assembling electric motors each to a different specification.• Ensure that all equipment and tooling is in a satisfactory working condition and within calibration. To report any issues to the Supervisor/Lead Build Technician where required.• Conducting tests on sub-assemblies and in-vehicle assemblies. These would typically involve both mechanical and electrical tests and result/data recording.• Ensure all documentation such as timesheets, holiday and absence records are completed and in both an accurate and timely manner.• To actively suggest improvements to build and company processes as part of the continual improvement process – this is generally through the use of the concerns databases that exist.

Diagnostic vehicle technician
-
Dec 2000 - Nov 2017
I started at MB of MK in December 2000 after finishing school and starting a national diploma course in vehicle maintenance. I became a qualified maintenance technician after I completed my apprenticeship and various specific training courses in 2004. I went on to become a systems technician in 2005, then a diagnostic technician in 2008. I have always embraced new technologies and opportunities to improve my knowledge and abilities, so I have put myself forward to be trained in all areas of electric drive and hybrid vehicle service, maintenance, diagnosis and repair. I am now one of a very limited number of fully trained AMG performance vehicle specialists. The training included trips to Portugal and Germany for factory tours, performance driving, vehicle comparison and technical information exchange.Being a diagnostic technician I am also tasked with liaising with the factory about complex diagnostic problems, carrying out work as advised, reporting back findings and discussions regarding further diagnostic checks. I am f-gas trained so can legally work on air conditioning systems using R134a gas. My day to day duties include:• Health and safety checks to ramp and hand tools• Service and maintenance• Diagnosis of vehicle faults • Assisting other colleagues • Liaising with the factory about ongoing in-depth faults• Heath checks on every vehicle• Citnow customer video reports on every vehicle

Personal Projects
-
2000 - 2016
In my time away from work I have a healthy interest in vehicles, enjoying various projects over the years which have helped me develop new skills and abilities outside the limitation of my professional work environment. I have lots of experience with various other manufacturer vehicles, mainly transverse front wheel drive vehicles including changing cambelts and clutches. I’ve also built high performance engines using both OEM and aftermarket performance components including pistons, camshafts and throttle bodies.Other skills and projects:• Wiring in standalone engine management to run with OEM looms and components.• Carrying out engine conversions fitting larger, higher performance or newer engines.• Built wiring looms from the ground up incorporating aftermarket and OEM components, including standard vehicle functions, standalone engine management, standalone and OEM instrumentation, fuseboxes, body control modules (inc. solid state PDM fusebox).• Upgrading brake piping with copper or steel pipe to run them internally including bias valve.• Fitment of aftermarket adjustable suspension.• Strip, rebuild and adjustment of torsion bar suspension.• Up rated fuel systems including external fuel pumps and swirl pots.• Fitment of composite body panels. My interest in vehicles does not end with cars, I also have a passion for motorcycles, I hold a full motorcycle licence and I ride, compete and maintain both 4 and 2 stroke, on and off road motorcycles.
