My project consisted of using ArcGIS 9.3 and 10.1 to identify unique areas of the landscape, using landscape, soil, and climate variables. Additionally, I measured and compared soil properties across Pennsylvania using a Troxler nuclear density gauge, penetrometers, and other methods to measure physical and chemical soil properties, both in the field and the lab. My job duties consisted of using a handheld GPS unit to locate pre determined sampling locations across the states of Oregon and Washington. I used a bucket auger to collect soil samples at these locations at different horizons. Additionally, I described various physical properties of the soils, and was also required to recognize slope positions, and different landforms.
