Jan 2012 - May 2012
One freshman biology class and one sophomore/junior chemistry class in Wheeling, IL. Participated in the AVID program as a tutor. Both were regular ability level classes with a culturally diverse group of students. Actively worked with other biology and chemistry teachers in Professional Learning Communities to improve instruction, assessment, student achievement, and adherence to College Readiness Standards. Communicated with parents and counselors through email to ensure the success of students. Used Mastery Manager program as a tool for data-driven instruction. Incorporated technology in the classroom with Vernier lab equipment, ELMO visual presenter, PowerPoint, and Prezi. Used TeacherLogic online grade book and Moodle class webpage. Planned instruction using backwards design and engaging connections to real world applications. Used inquiry-based instruction whenever possible. Incorporated Multiple Intelligences theory into lesson planning and differentiated instruction through jigsaw learning and various forms of grouping. Daily formative assessment monitored progress through exit slips, quizzes, questioning, and journaling. Findings were used to shape the next day’s lesson. Conference privately with struggling students to set goals and stay on task. Show less
