Project Title: "Guilt’s Guide: A Study of the Quadripartitus, the Largest Early Medieval Penitential Manual". Centred on a study of the Quadripartitus, the project explored the development of the institution of regulated lay penance and confession in Europe from ca. 600-850. The study culminated in draft critical editions of the Quadripartitus as well as two earlier penitential manuals, namely the Iudicia Theodori and the Penitential of Egbert. These drafts editions are now available for consultation online: http://individual.utoronto.ca/michaelelliot/manuscripts/texts/quad.html; http://individual.utoronto.ca/michaelelliot/manuscripts/texts/iudicia_theodori.html; and http://individual.utoronto.ca/michaelelliot/manuscripts/texts/poenitentiale_ecgberhti.html.
