Chief Administrative Officer for University of Connecticut’s Marine and Maritime Campus comprised of twelve buildings totaling 340,000 square feet located on 136 acres with $11 million total operating budget. Advocated for a new $9 million Student Center (the first capital construction project at the campus in ten years), new academic programs, and new faculty positions, all during a challenging fiscal climate. In addition, developed important relationships and partnerships with Federal and State legislators, and community and business leaders, through community engagement activities. Strengthened or developed important partnerships with Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, Coast Guard Academy, Marine Science Magnet High School, and Mitchell College. These efforts are credited with renewed community awareness and engagement with the campus. Results of these efforts include a residential life partnership with Mitchell College, $15 million investment in future capital improvements to the campus through Next Generation Connecticut, establishment of a new Institute for Community Resiliency and Climate Adaptation, and additional donor support for scholarships. In addition to building partnerships with external constituencies, established relationships across the University, including Admissions and Enrollment Management, Communications, Media Relations, Audit and Compliance, Diversity and Equity, Finance and Budget, and Dining Services. Partnered with UConn Deans, Academic Department Heads, and faculty to add new graduate and professional (workforce development) programs in Engineering, Nursing, and Education; a new undergraduate major in English; a new 2+2 undergraduate Engineering program; and additional permanent faculty in biology, engineering, environmental economics, geography, maritime archeology, mathematics, and psychology.. Head of Science Department, responsible for management of Department's personnel, physical, and financial resources. Developed and implemented multi-year, multi-million dollar recapitalization plan, the largest such effort since the sciences building was built in the mid 1970’s. Praised by Coast Guard Academy’s Superintendent for foresight, planning, and fiscal management as key to the successful completion of this recapitalization effort. In response to changes in Coast Guard mission requirements following September 11, 2001. Incorporated geospatial sciences and technologies into the Coast Guard Academy’s curriculum. This was in recognition of the importance of these technologies to fulfilling several Coast Guard mission requirements, that Coast Guard watchstanders and decision-makers will increasingly need to be more proficient with these technologies, and that the need for officers proficient in these technologies will continue to increase for the foreseeable future. Developed strategic relationships with Federal, state, local, and corporate partners to provide direct and indirect support for this burgeoning program. Extensive experience in development and delivery of introductory (Oceanography for Non-Science Majors, Meteorology), advanced (Ocean Dynamics, Ocean Circulation), and customized senior capstone (Remote Sensing and Geospatial Sciences) science courses.
