The purpose of this project is to look at the association between property value, community gardens, and food insecurity. This study will interview key community garden stakeholders in NV to 1) identify where community gardens are located in SNV; 2) understand what efforts they are doing to address food insecurity (most interested in their efforts using community gardens); 3) understand their perceptions of supports and barriers to using gardening as a tool to address food insecurity; 4) Identify any changes in housing values after the implementation of community gardens (using existing, publicly available data sets); 5) Understand their perceptions on changes in property values after the implementation of community gardens. Stakeholders will be identified from existing relationships had by the student and faculty adviser. The study will also use targeted snowball sampling to increase the number of participants - if existing stakeholders recommend additional appropriate contacts, they too will be contacted via phone and asked to complete the interview. The Advocacy Corps is a 9 month-long program where young adults between the ages of 19-30 get paid to organize their local community around federal legislation. Advocacy Corps organizers connect local activists and leaders with their local member of Congress to affect big, long-term change. During the course of this program, Advocacy Corps organizers learn critical organizing skills and put them into practice with hands-on leadership experience. As an Advocacy Corps Organizer I am organizing around the demilitarization of law enforcement. Show less

As a Senator, I advocate for the benefit of the student body as a whole with an emphasis of the Division of Health Sciences. I have introduced legislation to provide resources for students who conduct Dreamzone Trainings, a training that raises awareness to the institutional barriers and supports for students who are undocumented. I also introduced legislation that stipulates that CSUN Student Government will continue to provide resources regardless of immigration status as well as advocate for pathways to citizenship.
