Geological mapping: Isle of Mull- 3 days, Isle of Arran, Ardnamurchan, Oban- each 7 days. Independent mapping project: Isle of Bute- 14 days. Petroleum geology: Scarborough- 7 days. I have been involved in several field trips during my degree, which have aided my understanding of rock identification, interpreting large scale geological formations and mapping rock units and their boundaries, resulting in me feeling confident to undertake 14 days independent mapping on the Isle of Bute as part of my dissertation. Fieldwork is an integral part of earth science and the practical hands on experience has aided my understanding of the subject, and encouraged me to become independent and confident in my interpretation of geology in the field.
