Her research is practice-based and involves: digital design, computation, digital fabrication, information modelling, textile architecture, and digital crafting. She has supervised over 16 PhD students, on subjects from material design to building performance. She has been invited to lead workshops internationally and international chair positions at institutes like ENSAD, ESA, IAAC and Digital Futures. She has won numerous academic awards and honors including the EliteForsk Prize for outstanding research of international excellence. This has provided her opportunities to share design practice and communicate concepts and technologies. Mette continues to host research events and international conferences, contributing to the critical reflection on the emerging digital practice. Since the founding of CITA, she successfully attracted funding and built-up a strong international group. In 2012, she became full Professor in Architecture and Digital Technologies.

As a research group, we identify core research questions into how space and technology can be probed, seeking to investigate how the current forming of a digital culture impacts on architectural thinking and practice. CITA examines how architecture is influenced by new digital design -- its production tools as well as the digital practices that inform our societies culturally, socially and technologically. Using design and practice-based research methods, the aim is to explore concept, design and realization of working prototypes. CITA consolidates new collaborations with interdisciplinary partners from the fields of computer graphics, human computer interaction, robotics, artificial intelligence as well as the practice based fields of furniture design, fashion and textiles, industrial design, film, dance and interactive arts.
