Creator and Producer of Aria Code
-
Aug 2018 - Present
I conceived, created, and am the lead producer of Aria Code, an innovative and immersive podcast that explores the big ideas and real human dilemmas in an opera through the lens of a single aria. This critically acclaimed, chart-topping show is a co-production of WQXR, WNYC Studios, and the The Metropolitan Opera. Hosted by the Grammy-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens, Aria Code has been glowingly reviewed by The New York Times (“Luminous… a major event and a gift. Eminently listenable and often illuminating…”) and The New Yorker (“It’s an elegantly constructed, effortlessly listenable series… one of the most immediately pleasurable podcasts I’ve heard in a while… so artfully done that it’s like an aria in itself.”). In its first season, it became the #1 music podcast in Apple and has been included in best-of roundups from the BBC to Cosmopolitan. Throughout its two seasons, I've handled all aspects of production. I plan and design all episodes; source, book, prepare, and conduct all interviews for this multi-voice, non-narrated show; write all host scripts and direct all host sessions; create the long-form narrative that comprises the main body of the show; and do all of the scoring of those narrative segments. Aria Code features a broad range of exceptional guests, including foremost academics, writers, historians, athletes, psychologists, dramaturgs, scientists, folklorists, and everyday people with powerful personal stories the share. Every episode includes one of the greatest international opera singers in the world today (such as Renée Fleming, Joyce DiDonato, Anna Netrebko, and many others) as well as high-level talent from outside the world of opera (such as Dame Judi Dench, Rufus Wainwright, Ann Patchett, Anna Chlumsky, and Dan Savage).
