My current role at Landis & Gyr involves the production of Smart gas meters of a number of different models in an assembly line environment with set targets to be reached and activity recorded. This involved using a variety of different machinery to install parts of the meter and also program the meter with the correct software, each meter also has to be quality inspected at each station/machine on the line for specific standards, this involved the matching of coloured parts of the meter, ensuring no damage had occured and that the valves in the meter would function correctly and hold the right pressures etc. This role also requires that an engineers drawing is followed to ensure that the meter when lasered with text and information conforms to the drawing and standards required by law and customer.

Whilst working for Rehau as an extrusion operator I gained valuable experience working in a fast paced production environment with strict deadlines to complete orders. This involved working a continental shift pattern. I began working at the company as a packer/trainee operator, this involved ensuring the profiles being extruded maintained the correct colour, dimensions and texture whilst also packing the product as it came off the production line. Responsibilities quickly moved on to preparing the production line for start-up by exchanging dies ready to extrude different profiles, setting up paint stations, maintaining & cleaning down paint pumps and rollers and also ensuring that the profile was to the highest industry standard of quality, texture and dimension before being prepared for dispatch to the customer.

My first role here consisted of resolving problems for customers involving their pre-payment meters for energy on behalf of British Gas, This role involved gathering the relevant information from the customers regarding their meter to help resolve any issues they were having, talking customers through how to resolve the issue using step by step instructions and booking home visits from engineers where applicable. Other responsibilities were to help direct customers to the department they were looking for to have any other issues or queries resolved.A new role opened up within the business which involved contacting customers directly and recommending British Gas’ new smart meters for fitment at their property. This role also involves working to targets and quotas such as success rate on appointment bookings and also ensuring that call quality is to a good standard.
