During my research internship at the ImmunoEndocrinology group of the department Medical Biology, UMCG, I worked on the characterization of the intestinal porcine IPEC-J2 cell line as well as the pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica Typhimurium. In this internship, I was under the supervision of prof. dr. P. de Vos and M.M.P. Oerlemans, MSc. I acquired cell culturing skills and knowledge in regard to the measurement of the transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) and Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) system. Moreover, I familiarized myself with the process of pathogen adhesion and its assessment. I learned to search for practical solutions in literature to apply in the lab as well as to interpret data in aim to draw biologically relevant conclusions.
