I had the privilege to work in Pediatric Orthotics with a focus in scoliosis, cranial remolding/post-surgical orthosis, and all other things pediatric. I worked to get kiddos moving towards a more functional and musculoskeletally balanced life. Here's to creating a positive environment in which kiddos are supported and encouraged to be kiddos - Cheers.

In my final rotation of my residency I am gaining knowledge in pediatric care of kiddos with congenital, genetic, and acquired conditions. My training includes scanning with Vorum’s Spectra scanner system and modification in CanFit of primarily orthotic devices, and the measurement, delivery and adjustment of scoliosis braces. Everyday is inevitably rewarding, as children bring a contagious and fun dynamic to the casting and delivery of any kind of device. The team at the Sacramento Shriners has been very welcoming and enthusiastic in the broadening of my experiences as I try to absorb their collective knowledge during my last three months as a resident. In my fifth of six residencies I have had the privilege of working overseas at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC). KCMC is closely affiliated with Tanzania Training Center for Orthopaedic Technologists (TATCOT), an ISPO 1 category training facility and the only one on the continent of Africa. This residency has afforded me opportunities to be creative with the materials on hand, work in a system that makes one socket per casting (cast -> modify mold -> straight to lamination -> definitive fitting -> follow up), see advanced presentations not frequently seen in the states, work closely with orthopaedic surgeons during amputation and revisions surgeries, attend hospital wide lectures and TATCOT lectures, and care for people who may speak english as a second language or not at all. The focus in this residency is broad - patient care from start to finish, consultation with related departments, fabrication, and the sharing of knowledge and techniques between O&P minds and schools. Here are some links if you would like to look up KCMC or TATCOT: https://www.kcmc.ac.tz/ https://www.tatcot.org/ Show less

In my 4th rotation (of 6), I focused on upper limb prosthetic management. This clinic specializes in upper limb, multi-limb involvement, and difficulty to fit prosthetic cases. The challenges presented here challenged my creative abilities, taught me fundamentals of upper limb biomechanics and fitting, and taught me to discern when to work outside of the box. This clinic focuses on appropriate evaluation for initial and subsequent devices, long term care and maintenance, proper application of varied control systems, and exploration into newly developed, cutting edge technology. Solid research and evidence based principles are applied in an innovative way to set the patient up for success both now and in their prosthetic future. Show less

In the third of my 6 residency rotation, I had the privilege of working at the country's number one rehabilitation hospital. The facilities are state of the art, and the employees go above and beyond in the quality of care provided the patients. This residency focused on prosthetics and I continued to hone my skills in patient evaluation, casting, fitting, prosthetic alignment, problem solving, modifying, and clinical documentation skills. I also continued learning in clinical work flow, new electronic health record systems, how to effectively work with a prosthetic technician team, and the art of custom silicone liner fabrication. • Oct 2017 - Dec 2017

The second of my 6 clinical rotations focused on Prosthetics and institutionalized care within the Veteran's Affairs Hospital system. I have gained experience in the prosthetic evaluation, casting, and fitting process, and have been exposed to a range of prosthetic presentations. My patients have taught me the importance of keeping up with an aging population and their changing needs, and of showing compassion at all times during clinical appointments. Weekly Amputee Clinics were attended to maintain consistent prosthetic care and ensure our patients did not fall through the cracks of a large institutional system, and to provide holistic care to those we serve. My first residency in a course of 6 focused on patient care and fabrication of orthoses. I saw range of presentations and ages, but had the opportunity to have a generalized focus on Ankle Foot Orthoses, gain specialized experience in Cranial Remodeling Orthoses, and formal training in the WalkAide System. My preceptor emphasized efficiency and thoroughness of patient examination, clinical documentation, and fabrication timelines. The primary job of designing and implementing curricula for Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and Animal Biology and co-teaching General Biology and Current Issues in Biology are far from a sum of a teacher's responsibilities. I served on several committees, including Faculty Senate, as Secretary, and the Academic Standards Committee. However, the bulk of my responsibilities resided in the mentoring of students through not only the content, but through life, the responsibilities and realities of college, time management skills, organization, and developing useful and tailored study skills.
