I am a well-trained Biochemist with an extensive knowledge in the field of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. My studies are focused on determining the role of cholesterol-rich lipoproteins LDL and HDL in health and disease with a special focus on atherosclerosis. Over the past years, I have made important contributions to the discovery that HDL receptor scavenger receptor BI function is critical for the delivery of cholesterol to steroidogenic pathways in adrenals both in mice as well as in the human setting. To execute these studies, I have been granted personal funding from the Dutch Heart Foundation (grants 2008T070 and 2012T080). Show less
