I am one of the principal investigators of the LaForeT ‘Landscape Forestry in the Tropics’ project (Budget: 3.1 Mio. EUR, http://www.la-foret.org/) where I coordinate working package 1 ‘multi-temporal analysis of deforestation/reforestation patterns’, working package 6 ‘landscape modelling’ and the country component Philippines. LaForeT has 36 study sites ranging from 78-144km² in Ecuador (Napo, Pastaza, Esmeraldas), Philippines (Leyte, Cagayan Valley) and Zambia (Copperbelt, Northwestern, Eastern Provinces). Other tasks include the day-to-day supervision of PhD and MSc students, designing ground truthing field campaigns and participatory mapping workshops, supporting the conceptualisation of interdisciplinary, spatially-explicit intersections among LaForeT working packages and the coordination of the LaForeT country component Philippines. I am further providing technical advice to Department International Forest Policy, German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMBF) on remote sensing related topics; prepare funding proposals, project reports and support public media activities of the institute.
